Choosing a rental property can be quite challenging. Renting is a great way to enter the market place and begin to build or build back
your creditworthiness. It also provides the most flexibility if you move often. The rental market can be quite competitive for some parts of the country, like Denver so it will be important to do your homework ahead of time. Just as the potential home buyers assess their needs, so should the potential renter. Think about what will best suit your needs. Are you looking for a loft in the city center or a small cottage in the suburbs? Either way make a list of your needs, i.e. space, rooms and location and your wants, i.e. amenities and finishes. This will help you narrow down your search and make quick decisions if need be. Be prepared to put down at least the first month’s rent towards a deposit and to go through a credit check.
Another thing to keep in mind is your landlord. Think about what makes you most comfortable. Do you want a management company handling the property or would you rather have a ‘hands-on’ landlord? There are pros and cons to both. Just do you research of the company or landlord ahead of time in order to avoid surprises.
