Corporate relocation? It’s more than just logistics.  A corporate relocation sounds glamorous and if you are going to move, corporate relocations offer benefits to employees that the average mover does not have access.  Depending on the companies policies and procedures and the position of the employee, it can be rather generous. There is an entire industry devoted to helping relocate employees.  These benefits include helping you pay for a mover, select a real estate agent and temporary accommodations.  Great stuff!  However, there is more than just these logistics that play are part in a successful transition of an employee.  There are subjective factors that play a role that are harder to quantify.

The easier your move is, the better the start is.  However, it doesn’t end there.  In order for an employee and his or her family to assimilate, they need to ‘fit’ within the community.  This begins with finding the best neighborhood that reflects their lifestyle, which takes time.  Unfortunately, most corporate relocations do not allow for renting and then buying and the.  Therefore, you need to do your research and speak with your human resource representative before taking on the assignment.  Keep in mind that if it is a temporary assignment, chances are you can be more flexible.  However, if it is a permanent relocation, the more due diligence you do ahead of time will make a big difference.
