Moving? DIY? Make Sure You’re Ready

Moving? DIY? Make sure you’re ready. Your budget will often determine what options are available to you.  However, keep in mind what you are up against.  Start by taking inventory of your things.  It’s important to have a complete understanding of what you will have to do in order to prepare for your move.  If you are in a rental, you may not have to worry about moving large appliances.  However, your big entertainment center you got a great deal on, may pose a challenge.   I suggest that once you do take inventory, plan on packing up your smaller items and have those ready to go prior to the move.  Often times, when you move yourself you are asking your friends and family to help.  Therefore, save them the frustration and their back and prepare ahead of time. Pizza and beer will only get you so far. Having everything ready to go, makes quick work of the task. Keep in mind, there is a method to loading a truck or portable storage unit.  Think Jenga. Stability is key. If you think, I should tie this down. Do it. The more compact your load, the less likely your things will shift in transport and minimize the potential for damage.  Remember, if you are having volunteer help reward them with food and drinks.  If you treat them right, they will be willing to help you again in the future.
